FAQ

How do I convert grams to moles?

Divide mass by molar mass: n = m / M. For example, 18.015 g of water (M = 18.015 g/mol) is exactly 1 mol.

Where can I find a substance's molar mass?

Read it from the substance's Safety Data Sheet, a periodic table (add up the atomic masses × counts), or compute it with a molar mass calculator. Common values: H₂O 18.015, NaCl 58.44, CO₂ 44.01, glucose 180.156 g/mol.

Why do chemists use moles?

A mole is 6.022×10²³ particles, so it converts 'how many atoms/molecules' into a weighable mass. Reactions balance in moles, not grams.
