FAQ
What aspect ratio should YouTube videos use?
16:9 (for example 1920×1080) is the standard for YouTube. Shorts and TikTok use 9:16 vertical, while cinema often uses 1.85:1 or 2.39:1.
How do I resize without distortion?
Keep width and height in the same ratio: multiply one side by the scale factor and solve the other. This calculator does exactly that from your original ratio.
Why does my 4:3 photo crop on a 16:9 screen?
The shapes differ, so either bars are added (letterboxing) or the edges are cut (cropping). Common ratios include 1:1 for squares and 3:2 for many cameras.
