FAQ
Does this include car depreciation?
No — it covers running costs only. Depreciation, insurance, and servicing add roughly 0.15–0.30 per km on a typical car; multiply the yearly distance by that figure to see the full picture, then compare with transit.
How many working days should I count?
Five days a week × 46 weeks is a realistic default after holidays and leave. Shift workers can push to 6–7 days; part-timers should lower the weekly figure rather than the distance.
Is commuting time worth money?
The hours figure puts a shape on it: at any wage rate, an hour a day of driving is 230+ hours a year. Studies consistently find each additional minute of commute lowers reported life satisfaction — cheap transit isn't always the whole trade.
