FAQ

What is dynamic currency conversion (DCC)?

When a terminal abroad offers to charge you in your home currency, the merchant's processor sets the rate — usually 3–6% worse than your card network. Always choose to pay in the local currency; decline the conversion offer.

Do all cards charge a foreign transaction fee?

No. Many travel and most premium cards charge 0%, applying the network's wholesale rate directly. On a 5,000-unit trip bill, swapping a 3% card for a no-fee card saves about 150 before you change any other habit.

Where does the FX spread hide?

Card networks publish a mid-market rate, then add a small network markup (often ~1%) before your bank adds its own fee. You never see a line item — the spread is baked into the exchange rate on your statement.
