FAQ

How expensive is an overdraft really?

A 35 fee for borrowing 100 for three days works out to an APR above 4,000%. Even payday lenders rarely charge that rate — the small numbers hide the cost because the term is so short.

Is overdraft protection worth it?

If you overdraft more than once a month, usually yes — a 12 transfer fee from savings beats a 35 penalty. If events are rare, pay-per-use wins. The calculator shows the break-even for your exact pattern.

How can I avoid overdrafts entirely?

Ask your bank for low-balance alerts, opt out of debit-card overdraft coverage (cards then simply decline instead of feeing), and keep a small buffer you treat as zero. Declining a 4 coffee is free; overdrafting for it is not.
