FAQ
What is the percentage change formula?
((Final − Initial) ÷ |Initial|) × 100. A positive result is an increase, negative a decrease.
Why use the absolute value of the initial number?
When the initial value is negative, using |Initial| keeps the sign of the result meaningful: +10 → 15 and −10 → −15 are both a 50% increase in magnitude terms.
What is the difference between percentage change and percentage difference?
Percentage change measures movement from an old value to a new one; percentage difference compares two values with no direction, using their average as the base.
