FAQ
How do I remove tax from a total?
Divide the tax-inclusive total by (1 + rate). For $108 with 8% tax: 108 ÷ 1.08 = $100 net, $8 tax.
What is the difference between sales tax and VAT?
Sales tax is collected once at the final sale; VAT is collected at each stage of production but credited back, so the final consumer bears the same burden.
How do I back-calculate the pre-tax price?
Divide the total by (1 + rate). A $107 total at 7% tax is 107 ÷ 1.07 = $100 before tax.
