FAQ

What is the golden ratio for coffee?

1 part coffee to 17 parts water by weight (anywhere from 1:16 to 1:18) is the specialty-coffee sweet spot for pour-over. French press tastes best richer, around 1:12 to 1:15.

Why weigh coffee instead of using spoons?

Bean density and grind size make spoon volumes swing by 30% or more. A cheap gram scale removes the guesswork — 1 g accuracy is plenty for repeatable brews.

How much caffeine is in my cup?

Roughly 10 mg per gram of grounds ends up extracted in the cup for a medium roast. A 30 g pour-over therefore lands near 300 mg, close to the FDA's suggested 400 mg daily ceiling.
