How do I measure my vertical jump?
The Sargent method: chalk your fingertips, stand flat against a wall and mark your standing reach, then jump and touch as high as possible. The gap between marks is your jump. Do three attempts and take the best; measure in centimeters for the power formulas.
What is a good vertical jump?
For men, 40–50 cm is solid recreational territory, 60+ turns heads, and NBA combine elite starts near 90 cm. For women, shift everything down roughly 10 cm: 30–40 average fit, 50+ excellent, 66+ elite. Your rating above uses those bands.
How much power does a jump produce?
A 75 kg athlete jumping 50 cm generates about 4,400 watts of peak power — nearly six horsepower for a fraction of a second. That's why the vertical jump is a favorite lab test for explosive ability: it measures the entire leg-drive system in one number.
