FAQ

How much electricity does a washing machine use?

The motor and pump draw only about 0.25 kWh; heating the water dominates. A warm 40 °C wash adds roughly 0.6 kWh and a 60 °C wash about 1.5 kWh — which is why cold washes cut washing energy by 80–90%.

Is line drying really worth it?

A vented or condenser dryer typically uses 2–4 kWh per load. At typical rates that's the single largest laundry cost — drying on a line for a year at four loads a week can save more than the detergent budget entirely.

How accurate is the water figure?

The calculator assumes 50 L per load, right for a modern front-loader. Older top-loaders can use 100–150 L, doubling the water line — check your machine's specs and adjust the rate to see the difference.
