FAQ
What is CAGR?
Compound annual growth rate is the smooth yearly rate that takes a starting value to an ending value over a period. It treats volatile years as if growth were steady, which makes different investments comparable.
Why is CAGR lower than my best year?
CAGR averages compounding, not the peaks. A portfolio that doubles then falls 25% has a CAGR of about 9.8% over the two years even though year one gained 100%.
Can CAGR be negative?
Yes — whenever the ending value is below the starting value. A −10% CAGR means the value shrank by a tenth each year on average.
