FAQ

What is one unit of alcohol?

In the UK, one unit is 10 ml of pure ethanol. A US standard drink is larger at 14 ml, and an Australian standard drink is 12.5 ml — this calculator shows all three.

What is one standard drink?

In the US, 14 g of pure alcohol — a 355 ml beer at 5% or a 44 ml shot at 40%. UK units and AU standard drinks measure the same idea differently.

How many units are safe per week?

Guidance varies by country; UK advice is 14 units or fewer spread across the week. Less is always lower risk — check your local health authority.
