FAQ

Can I swap pan shapes freely?

Within reason, yes — match the volume and the batter depth stays the same, so baking time barely moves. A factor between 0.8 and 1.25 is safe to bake as one batch without other changes.

What if the factor is very different from 1?

Scaling leavening and salt is not perfectly linear — for factors beyond roughly ±25% expect to tweak baking soda, powder, and oven time. Very thin batters bake faster; deep ones need lower heat and longer time.

Does a square 8-inch equal a round 9-inch?

Almost: the square 8-inch holds about 64 in² versus ~63.6 in² for the round 9-inch at the same depth — a 1% difference, so recipes swap between them seamlessly.
